Some advice is passed down between generations without even thinking about its meaning and effect. Then, even in skincare, we make the mistake of believing in their effectiveness. However, in reality, our skin is suffering and not receiving the necessary nutrition.
Skincare myth number 1 – One cream will help you with wrinkles
You can’t stop wrinkles by using just one product. That would have to be an absolute miracle, and unfortunately, we can’t rely on miracles. In fact, in addition to the cream, you will also need a set of other skincare products and tricks.
Nutritional sera are very important because they boost your skin with a large dose of vitamins and minerals. In addition to sera usage, you should practice facial yoga regularly, drink plenty of water to hydrate your skin, and eat lots of fresh vegetables and fruits.
Chronic sleep deficit will have a negative effect not only on wrinkles but your skin condition in general.
Skincare myth number 2 – You have acne skin condition because you do not clean your face
The rashes that accompany us mainly during puberty but often also occur during adulthood have nothing to do with skin hygiene. With such a statement, you only cast a bad image on people with acne problems, as if they have bad hygiene. I had acne problems until my mid-twenties. My acne skin condition had definitely not been caused by a lack of hygiene.
Acne can cause oily skin but also hormonal changes in the body or chronic bacterial infection. In my case, it was the combination of all three 🙂
The first mentioned factor is the reason why acne skin condition is so often associated with adolescence. To get rid of acne skin condition, you need to cure the potential skin inflammation first. Only after that should you remove excess grease and indulge intensive hydration of your skin. This should be your long-term daily skincare routine.
Skincare myth number 3 – You should choose the cream according to the recommended age
This number on cosmetic products is only informative. No manufacturer will guarantee that a given skincare product will work only on a specific group of people.
In fact, manufacturers have used ingredients that are suitable for most women or men of a given age group. But it does not mean that when you are, for example, a woman over 40, you should automatically use products with 40+label on them. You should choose products according to the composition and properties that suit your skin type and skin condition best.
Skincare myth number 4 – Wash your face with hot water
Neither hot nor warm water is good for the skin. For example, if you have oily skin, using hot water will only support skin sebum production. Try to wash your skin in lukewarm or cold water.
This will stimulate the blood flow in your skin, and it will be nourished better. In this way, you will prevent wrinkles creation, and your skin will look refreshed.
Skincare myth number 5 – Chocolate degrades skin condition
This myth or claim is very popular, especially for acne or eczema. Young people, in particular, are scared this way, but in reality, there is no relevant study to confirm this assumption. In most cases, this is an individual matter and depends on the particular person and his skin.
Someone can eat a whole package of chocolate without affecting his skin, and others’ skin will be irritated by a few pieces. The quality of chocolate also plays an important role. Dark chocolate with some 70 or more percent of cocoa is full of antioxidants that can help not only your skin but your whole body. I used to believe in this myth. During puberty, I had a face full of acne and had thought that eating chocolate would only make it worse. But after I have cured my skin of bacteria infection, I have discovered that eating chocolate does not negatively affect my skin. Only my weight.
Skincare myth number 6 – Everything natural and chemical-free must help your skin
It would be great if we could only rely on quality products made from natural ingredients. But even 100% natural skincare products are not suitable for everyone. If you are allergic, natural products can cause you an allergic reaction. Eczema and even people with acne can experience the same problem.
Therefore, try it and if your skin does not respond well, stick to the classic skincare products and leave the organic ones to others.
Skincare myth number 7 – Expensive skincare products are better than cheap ones
Even in this case, there is no rule. You often pay more only for the brand but get similar content as in cheaper products.
Watch or read the results of independent tests, but most importantly, observe how your skin reacts to different skincare products until you find the right combination. Often you can get the same or even better results with cheaper skincare products than with expensive ones.
